The INDIAN SKYWALK... TRUE FACTS

Before you drive all the way out to the Grand Canyon WEST...... JUST to see the Indian Skywalk....

In My Opinion..... Save the Gas, Time and Expense....... WHY...

The idea was a good one... the area is very beautiful... but what they said it would be... is not how it appears....

You will not walk out on the sky walk and look straight down 4000 feet... and

you won't look straight down and see the river...

and that bums me out..... Save the extra 25 bucks and play the slots in Vegas..

Grand Canyon Sky Walk at Hualapai Indian Reservation

I would be happy to change any of my numbers or thoughts in this web site if anyone can send me documentation... that proves to me that I am wrong....

All thoughts are my opinion only.

What they said in a Press Release

Grand Canyon Skywalk
Scheduled to open Jan. 1, 2006 Hualapai Indian Reservation
* Juts about 70 feet into the canyon,
4000 ft above Colorado River

FALSE the RIVER is 1.4 Miles from the Skywalk!!!

* Will accommodate 120 people comfortably (how comfortable would you be?)
* Built with more than a million pounds of steel beams, and includes dampeners that minimize the structure's vibration
* Designed to hold 72 million pounds, withstand an 8.0 magnitude earthquake 50 miles away, and withstand winds in excess of 100 mph
* The walkway has a glass bottom and sides...four inches thick

Forget taking your Camera on the Skywalk... They won't let you... I wonder why?

It's Nothing Like the over exaggerated  Picture above !!

No building and no 4000 foot drop off at the end of the skywalk

Thanks To Arron Thompson for allowing us to use the picture to the left.

What a great Shot...

Taken from the river.... look in the distance and you will see the skywalk.

As we said it's over a mile away..

Google Earth the Location and see for yourself.

The Canyon where it over hangs is NOT 4000 feet... it's more like 1500 feet.... and where is the river....?

oh there's the river....

It's just not under the skywalk....

The River is North of the Skywalk and over a mile away.....

This picture was taken next to the skywalk,,, great FREE View...

The MATH via Google Earth

The river at it's closest point to Eagle Point is at Approximately 1165 feet above sea level

Eagle point where the walk is to be placed is at approximately 4615 feet above sea level.

The River is approximately 1.4 MILES! from Eagle Point.

The canyon the walk extends out over is at approximately 2775 feet above sea level at it's center, which is .34 miles from Eagle Point.

Eagle Point

4615 feet approx

River

1165 feet approx

Difference

3450 feet approx

And the River is over a Mile away

When you walk out on the Skywalk and look straight down.... you will not be 4000 feet above the river.... The canyon slopes so you'll be lucky to be 1000 feet....

So you are better off going up to the top of the Stratosphere.. for less than ten bucks... just my opinion....

Final note...

There is more there than just the skywalk....

The canyon views and the Indian's themselves are very  rewarding. There are plenty of places around eagle point where you can walk to the edge without paying / wasting 25 bucks

Also don't blame the Indian's for the Skywalk.. it was created by a Chinese developer ...

Final note to the Indians.... look you charge a lot just to take the bus out to eagle point... then you want people to pay a ridicules amount just to experience the Skywalk?? I feel you will get better results and less insults if you raise your basic entrance fee 5 bucks and allow everyone to use the skywalk free.
